This presentation will focus on the challenges faced when dealing with the "boy’s club" mentality and stereotypes; the qualities that will take you to the top, male or female by discovering the "Today’s Female Advantage"; how challenging it is to recruit "female" technical staff.

Effectively broken down into simple parts, this presentation can show that women can take charge at the workplace.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey
Sidestep negative energy rather than empower it.

1. Be proactive.

We are responsible for our own lives, therefore, do not hesitate or be afraid to show your initiative. You can do so by taking interest in your field and study the industry thoroughly. In other words, don’t wait for something to happen, make it happen for yourself.

2. Begin with the end in mind.

First of all, start with a clear vision of the end (of your destination) and develop a focus to concentrate on. Make each day’s activities contribute to the vision you have developped and determined for yourself.

3. Put first things first.

Effective management is setting priorities and putting things first.  Leadership decides what such priorities are. Management puts them first. You must also realize that priorities are set day by day, minute by minute. It’s something that takes time and patience. Management is also the required discipline to carry out your priorities. Self-management, on the other hand, is the ability to make decisions and choices for yourself. Then, one must act in accordance with such decisions and not wait to be acted upon.

4. Personal integrity.

In issues of interpersonal leadership, it is crucial to establish a reputation of personal integrity.  For instance, such simple things as keeping promises and fullfilling expectations that build your qualities as a trustworthy leader. In being loyal to those who are not present, we build trust with those that are present. It’s a simple matter of personal integrity. In other words, this is a beneficial means to the end, a win-win situation. It’s a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefits in all of our personal and interpersonal interactions.

5. Seek first to understand and then to be understood.

Communication is the most important needed skill in life. We spend years learning to read, to write and  to speak. We must not, however, forget that an essential key to communication is also to listen to the person who is communicating with you. Empathy, then, is the skill of listening with the intent to understand. It is essential in order to fully understand the other before they can understand you.

6. Synergize.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.  Two plants planted side by side will have roots that intertwine/intermingle. They will provide better soil to both plants as that if only one plant had existed. When you communicate synergistically, you are simply opening your mind and your heart to the new possibilities, new alternatives and new options. Basically, you are keeping an open mind to any new development.

7. Renewal.

This is the most important habit of them all. Achieving this habit will make all the other habits possible. In essence, you must preserve and enhance the greatest asset: YOU!  In this, we mean to preserve yourself in good physical shape, as well as both spirit and mood. You must keep your mind fresh to tackle all the challenges you will face daily and the objectives that you have set for yourself.

To achieve unity,  we always work with ourselves and our families, as well as with our co-workers. Unity is the highest and best fruit that comes from the Seven Habits. Most of us have tasted the fruit of unity from time to time in the past as we have also tasted the bitter and lonely fruits of disunity.  It is up to us to make the choice and to govern ourselves accordingly.
