About The Workshop

As a youth member of our community, it is important to develop strong leadership skills. Both the private and public sectors recognize that it is important to support youth in their personal and professional development as they will be the future leaders of our society. To ensure strong leadership, knowledge and experience must be transferred from one generation to the next. Capacity must be established and leadership must exist.

In recognizing these important goals, Vietnamese Canadian Federation (VCF) will be hosting the Passing the Torch workshop. Passing the Torch is a three day workshop in Ottawa organized for all interested youth with a specific focus on the Vietnamese community. The workshop will focus on the last components of the Community Building for Moving Forward project that was funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage in 2004.

Passing the Torch is organized by youth for youth. Young community leaders across Canada have come together to collaborate and build this workshop. During the workshop, be expected to meet leaders from all walks of life. They will share with you their successes, failures and experiences. You will be engaged in fun and creative team building activities that will support and facilitate the birth of sustainable community projects.

The workshop objectives are:

  • To empower youth to lead.
  • To create a fun and interactive forum for sharing and building of knowledge and capacity in leadership.
  • To facilitate the construction of key initiatives that will meet the collective needs of fostering youth leadership across the country.
